WISER Girls Excel in 2016 National Exams

For four years, the girls of WISER’s class of 2016 have been tirelessly preparing for the national exam that will partly determine their futures. Now, we are excited to say that their work has paid off!

For the fourth year in a row, 100% of WISER Girls will graduate while exceeding expectations for female students in Muhuru Bay. The same community that had no precedent of high-performing girls prior to WISER’s 2013 class is now home to Migori County’s #1 All-Girls Secondary School.

In addition to high performance in comparison to surrounding schools, WISER also compares impressively to schools nationwide. The girls of the class of 2016 qualified for instant full university scholarships at a rate that is more than 3 times the national average.

The girls were also excited to see that their highest scores out of all eleven subjects tested by national exams were in physics. Long-standing stereotypes about the role of women in STEM fields have led to low expectations for girls’ academic performance in the sciences. Once again, the WISER Girls have proven themselves to be an exception.

We couldn’t be more proud of the hard work that the WISER Girls have put into achieving their academic dreams, and we’re honored to support them. We’re also thankful for each and every person whose support has made this success possible!

The WISER Girls have earned every opportunity that will come their way after graduating and, as we like to say on campus, “we’ve been told the sky’s the limit, but there are footprints on the moon.”
