WISER Partner School - Highlights

The Duke University WISER Team will select a WISER Partner School to be recognized on occasion on our website. To receive this honor, a school must introduce a creative project, implement an inspiring awareness campaign, or go above and beyond in its efforts to help the girls and community in Muhuru Bay, Kenya.  Feel free to send us information about your school that you want to share with other Partner Schools.

WISER Partner School of the Month

High Technology High School

Congratulations to High Technology High School for being awarded the WISER Partner School of the month for April 2008! On Thursday, March 20th, the High Technology High School Key Club hosted a Dodgeball tournament in which the students competed against each other, and the top two teams had the oppurtunity to play against the HTHS Faculty and Staff. In a suspenseful final set of 3 games, the Male Faculty team played against the HTHS Student Government Association. After the 3 games were complete, the faculty won 2-1. All of the money raised during the event was donated to the WISER program through an alumnus at Duke University. Prashant Swaminathan, the WISER student group VP of Technology development at Duke, was proud to learn his former school has become sp energized and committed to helping him help the girls at WISER.

The award was granted for students’ innovative fundraising plans and their ability to involve both the student and faculty bodies to help raise awareness and funds for girls in Muhuru Bay, Kenya. Dodgeball is not a school’s typical fundraiser, but adds an extra ‘umph’ to the nature of ‘fun’ raising. Students are now already thinking of hosting a Sadie Hawkins Dance.
